BIM Coordination for Pharmaceutical Construction
Pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities are the most complex buildings in the world to coordinate. Process piping, clean rooms, HVAC validation, and GMP compliance add layers of technical complexity that demand specialized VDC expertise. We led BIM coordination on a $1.5B pharmaceutical campus.
GMP and Regulatory Compliance
FDA GMP regulations govern pharmaceutical facility design and construction. Every MEP system HVAC, process piping, utilities must be designed and documented to regulatory standards. BIM coordination must account for cleanroom classifications, pressure relationships, and validation documentation from the start.
Process Piping Complexity
Pharmaceutical facilities include process piping for water-for-injection (WFI), purified water (PW), clean steam, and multiple chemical distribution systems all with precise slope requirements, material specifications, and sanitary connection details that must be coordinated spatially within tight utility corridors.
Multi-Phase Campus Coordination
Large pharmaceutical expansions involve multiple concurrent construction phases across massive campuses. 4D scheduling and logistics coordination is essential to manage material flow, crane positioning, and trade sequencing without creating conflicts between phases.
Pharmaceutical BIM coordination requires understanding both construction coordination and process system requirements. We develop pharma-specific BEPs with cleanroom classification zones, GMP documentation requirements, and process piping coordination protocols built in. Our 4D models address multi-phase campus logistics.
What is your experience with pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities?
We led BIM coordination and 4D scheduling on a $1.5B pharmaceutical manufacturing campus one of the largest pharmaceutical construction projects in the US in recent years. The scope included process piping, cleanroom HVAC, multi-discipline coordination, and 4D logistics for a multi-phase campus.
Can you coordinate process piping systems in Revit?
Yes. We model and coordinate process piping including WFI, purified water, clean steam, and chemical distribution systems. We understand the slope requirements, material specifications (316L SS, polypropylene, etc.), and sanitary connection details that define pharmaceutical process piping.
Do you work with commissioning agents on pharmaceutical projects?
Yes we coordinate with CxA teams and produce documentation packages that support commissioning and validation. BIM models are structured to support IQ/OQ/PQ documentation workflows where required.
How do you handle cleanroom classification zones in BIM coordination?
Cleanroom zones (ISO 5–8, USP 797/800) are mapped into the federated model as spatial zones. All MEP coordination within these zones is reviewed against the zone classification requirements: HVAC supply/return configurations, penetration sealing requirements, pressure relationships, and access clearance standards.
